Recycling, fundraisers, Sponsors and Grants helps beat the budget crunch at Gus Robotics Team 228. Fundraising, grants and Sponsors is what keeps the Gus Robotics team running, without them there would be no team.
Gus Robotics Team 228 is the FIRST Robotics Team for the three Meriden, Connecticut High Schools (Platt, Maloney, and Wilcox Tech). Since 1999, we have been inspiring students into the world of science, technology, and engineering through the annual FIRST Robotics Competition and the FIRST Tech Challenge. But our inspiration does not simply end after students graduate from high school; to further their secondary (college) education, there are over sixteen million dollars in scholarships available to FIRST students, with many of these full ride scholarships to some of the world's most prestigious schools. http://www.usfirst.org/aboutus/scholarships.
Students/mentors of Gus Robotics Team have been earning free Technology/Recreational Equipment or Cash by participating in the FundingFactory Recycling Program. They collect empty cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops from the community and send the waste products to FundingFactory in exchange for their choice of technology and recreation products, or even cash.
Companies interested in demonstrating a commitment to STEM education and the environment can participate free of charge in the FundingFactory Business Support Program. FundingFactory will send each supporting business FREE prepaid shipping labels for the return of collected cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops. By donating to Gus Robotics Team, businesses help them earn the technology and or recreational equipment they need. Companies can sign up and help support Gus Team at www.fundingfactory.com and enter ID# 276998 under My Beneficiary.
Community and business supporters can also drop off cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops at the following locations: Maloney High School 121 Gravel St. Meriden, CT 06450 on Tuesday or Thursday evenings between 6:30pm-9:00pm.
To learn more about supporting the Gus Robotics Team please call Deb Lint at 203-213-4542 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org You can also visit us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GUSRobotics?ref=hl.

FIRST was founded in 1989 by the renowned inventor Dean Kamen. The aim of FIRST is to inspire students to careers in math, science, and technology through a fun and engaging robotics competition, which provides students with the ability to meet one-on-one with industry leaders and engineers.
The initial FIRST Robotics Competition comprised of 28 teams competing in a New Hampshire high school gymnasium. The ensuing years brought rapid growth to the program, to include over 35,000 students, 2,000 teams from 11 countries, competing at over 50 District and Regional Events, culminating with the World Championship Event in St. Louis, Mo.
